The Sweet Setup looks great, the initial line-up of recommendations is solid, and more will come in the next few weeks. With over a million apps now available on the App Store, people need a “ Wirecutter for apps” with recommendations thoroughly researched and written by people who test and use apps every day. I think that Shawn had the perfect idea at the right time. I didn’t want to post our articles in a reverse-chronological order that, by nature, would cause still-helpful reviews to be pushed out of view once new reviews get published. Additionally, by focusing on only the best, it means all the content on our site is relevant all the time. Here we will be recommending only the apps which are proven to be the best rather than new (I already write plenty about what’s new and cool over at and Tools & Toys). The Sweet Setup exists because I wanted a site that highlights the software that has proven to be the best, not necessarily the newest. Here’s how Shawn describes The Sweet Setup: The Sweet Setup, launched today, wants to recommend the best apps for iOS and OS X. the options are literally endless!Ĭreated too many themes for your dock and can't choose your favorite one? Use them all! DockMod integrates seamlessly with Mac OS X's Mission Control and Spaces technology and allows you to set a different look for each space! Use multiple profiles simultaneously and watch your dock change as you switch spaces and navigate Mission Control!Ĭreate as many different themes for your dock as you like, and assign a new theme with just a couple clicks! Modify and preview your themes, as well as your profiles you set for your dock on each individual space, using a sleek and intuitive interface. When my friend Shawn told me about the project he was working on a few months ago, I was immediately excited by its potential and premise. Assign a gradient color to your dock using as many colors as you like, overlay the gradient with a custom image and adjust the opacity to your liking, or forego the gradient and just set an image as your dock background. Tired of the same old boring grey dock? With DockMod, you can customize your dock to look exactly the way you want it to. Utilizing an intuitive editor and seamless Mac OS X integration, DockMod brings the complete dock customization experience to your desktop. If you would like to customize your Mac's dock, this is a great free option to do so. While the installation process can be intimidating at first, DockMod, once installed, offers a number of powerful tools to alter how your dock looks and feels. You can change opacity, alter colorations, change the edging, add a deeper reflection, and change the gradients, effectively altering the full look and feel of your dock. The app, itself, has a slick interface showing the desktop options (and you can create multiple desktops or themes here). Removing DockMod later will be slightly more complicated than a standard app because of this, but the developers do a decent job of providing the necessary tools to streamline the process. After downloading and installing the initial application, you'll need to run through a one-time setup process that will replace and install key files on your computer. Installation for DockMod is a bit more complicated than a standard Mac app. While you can't completely remove the dock, you can greatly customize how it appears, even making it invisible if you so choose. This allows you to change things like the colors used in the reflections, the shape of the tray, the reflection opacity, and much more. DockMod for Mac offers tools to customize the look and feel of the dock on your Mac computer.
